Croatia signs for 44 Leopard 2A8 tanks

Croatia signed a contract in Berlin on 10 December 2025 for 44 Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks, worth almost EUR 1.5 billion, Defense News reported. Defense Minister Ivan Anušić signed the deal during an official visit attended by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Deliveries are planned from 2028 to 2030.

Part of the purchase will be financed through Croatia's share of the EU's SAFE defense loan program. The tanks will replace Croatia's Soviet-era M-84s (a Yugoslav T-72 derivative), marking a major shift to Western armor.

Croatia becomes the seventh country to order the Leopard 2A8. See the full list on our global service page.
