EuroTrophy has secured a contract worth about EUR 330 million to supply the Trophy active protection system for the Leopard 2A8 tanks being bought by Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Croatia, European Security & Defence reported on 20 January 2026. The deal also covers spare parts, training and logistics equipment.
Trophy uses radar to detect incoming anti-tank missiles and rockets and fires a small countermeasure to destroy them before impact. Originally developed by Israel's Rafael for the Merkava tank, it is standard on the Leopard 2A8.
Why it matters
The war in Ukraine has shown how vulnerable tanks are to missiles and drones attacking from above and the sides. Active protection is now seen as essential rather than optional, and it adds significantly to the cost of each tank. See how much does a Leopard 2 cost.
