German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced plans to buy 75 more Leopard 2 tanks in the latest configuration, most likely the 2A8, Militarnyi reported on 21 November 2025. The ministry was preparing a proposal for the purchase for the following year, so it is not yet a firm order.
The Bundeswehr has already ordered 123 Leopard 2A8s from KNDS. The first were bought to replace the Leopard 2A6s Germany sent to Ukraine in 2023. The German Army's long-term tank requirement has grown sharply since 2022, and planners expect a mix of Leopard 2A8s, the future Leopard 3 and eventually a next-generation tank.
